Certified Medical Coder

Job Summary:

Responsible for maintaining current and high-quality ICD-10-CM and CPT coding for Office and Outpatient diagnoses and procedural occurrences, through the review of clinical documentation and diagnostic results. Coder will work collaboratively with various Pediatric Associates of Dallas departments (Front Office, Business Office, Nursing and Lab, etc.) to resolve charging issues, denials, physician documentation clarifications, to ensure accurate billing and reduce denials. Coder will also assist in other areas of the department as requested by leadership. Coder will report directly Revenue Cycle Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

· Account for coding and abstracting of patient encounters

· Research and analyze data needs for reimbursement

· Make sure that codes are sequenced according to government and insurance regulations

· Analyze medical records and identify documentation deficiencies

· Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to other billing and coding staff

· Reviewing patients’ charts and documents for verification and accuracy

· Following up and clarifying any information that is not clear to other staff members

· Complying with medical coding guidelines and policies

· Expertly queries providers for missing or unclear documentation, by working with the providers, NP’s and PA’s

· Assist in implementing solutions to reduce backend-errors.

Skills and Abilities:

· Proven work experience as a Medical Coder

· 5+ years of work experience as a Medical Coder

· Proficient computer skills

· Work with Coding software and / or books

· Outstanding Organizational Skills

· Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information

Required Qualifications:

· High School Diploma/GED (or higher)

· Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCS, CCS-P CPC) to be maintained annually

· 2+ years of Outpatient Facility coding experience

· Experience with ICD-10

· Experience with LCD, NCD, Medical Necessity, Modifier Edits


· Remote: Monday – Friday

Job Type: Full-time
