Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT)
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) questionnaire to screen for autism. At Pediatric Associates, we ask that the parent fill out the questionnaire prior to the 18-month and 24-month check up. The M-CHAT was developed at the University of Connecticut’s Department of Psychology, and is designed to screen children aged 16 months to 30 months-old for an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The 23-item, parent-completed form generally takes five to seven minutes to be completed and a brief time for staff to score. The answers are both “yes” and “no” and will be scored at your appointment. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this screening tool.
